DIY iPad Case!

Everyone needs a patchwork DIY iPad case right!?!? Well at least I do. I feel like if you can, why not make anything in your life just that much cuter?! Right!! I considered this project for a while before taking it on. A couple of ways of creating it came to mind. I do have a case already and although it functions great its just not all that cute. I was thinking of just putting a quilted slip cover over my current case, but… then if I didn’t like how it turned out I would have zero I pad cases… So instead I set out to make a soft lined patchwork iPad case from all my own materials. I had been eyeing a beautiful cute quilt creation found on the blog Hop Skip Jump found here. I love how easy yet cute it is. All things cute and dainty are my jam, so I was super excited to use this inspiration for my DIY iPad case project. I love this pattern so much I may make a baby quilt with this pattern in the future (stay tuned). I have a thing for hearts ???.

The fabrics I chose for this project were all in my scrap bin. This is great project for using up some you your favorite small scrap pieces. I think I used 11 different fabrics and cut them all into 1 1/2 inch squares to allow for 1/4 inch seams. The end result being one inch squares once it is all pieced together.

This project was the first time I added a zipper to anything. I used a simple tutorial that thought me to add a zipper and just traced the shape of my own iPad. I can’t find the tutorial that I used years ago, however: here is an excellent tutorial found on the blog Melly sews called “How to sew a zipper pouch.” I hope to have lots of easy to follow tutorials one day.

To finish my DIY iPad case off I lined it with a soft white fleece. Ivy was super excited to help show you the inside of the case too. (please excuse her extremely stained shirt, as sometimes we are grubs).

I love my new upgraded DIY iPad case. I’m excited to try this pattern with different colors and possibly with larger squares so that I can create a bigger project in a less timely manner.

Hope you find inspiration to create new things around your home instead of just buying them. I often look around my home and think of projects to improve different areas. I was thinking of making new slip covers for all of our throw pillows (possibly dyeing ones we already own), creating my own wall art, or making some large cement planters for the front of our house. What do you think? Do you have any exciting DIY projects on the go? I’d love to hear your ideas. Until next time, just love and have fun creating!
