How to Decorate a Kids Room with Silver Accents!

Decorating a kids room is so fun!! And I don’t know about you, but I found it so hard to pick just one theme for Corbin’s room. I didn’t want to pick anything too childish or bold because he’s growing up so fast, and this way I can change up some of the bigger elements of his room as he turns into a mature boy. OMG don’t grow up Corbin… ok maybe just a little…

So I decided to choose a theme for the small elements of his room. Items that are not outwardly obvious and carry them throughout the design of the room. And what I choose was Silver Accents. I think these super cute elements in the room, just tie the whole room together.

This is how the room came to be… I first picked up these book ends from Home Sense (you might notice a huge Home Sense theme to this post). I had been keeping my eye out for some cute boyish looking book ends for a long time, that were at a reasonable price. Man book ends can get pricy. These book ends were around $10 each. And I love the super cute puppy faces!! (ok they look grumpy but still… I love them). They actually look like they could easily be DIYed. Maybe I’ll attempt to make something similar for the books in the kiddos playroom!

Next I picked up these super cute dinosaur knobs. They came it a set of 4, so Ivy also has some dinosaurs hanging out on her closet doors. Again they were found at Home Sense. Isn’t Corbin’s little hand print so cute. Corbin and I made that for Shawnikin’s first fathers day. Corbin must have been less than a month old, we were living in a hotel room because it was the first week that we moved to Kelowna, and we didn’t have a home yet. I remember baking it in the hotel oven hoping that I wouldn’t burn the building down. Oh the memories! It says “Corbin Hearts Daddy.”

I also found these Silver Plane Hooks at Home Sense! (surprise, surprise) Fancy that! I may have a slight addiction to that store. I love that Corbin uses the hook to hang up his police officer and fire fighter costumes at the end of the day. So cute! Above his hooks is his 12 month photo series! I love to look back at how small he was and how much he has grown. So big now! (tear)

Next up… I picked up these super cute Puppy Head Dresser Pulls from Amazon (Yay! a store that you can actually find the same product more than once!!). They were a bit more of a splurge, but I had to keep the theme going strong in this room. And I love how they turned out. Dresser pulls may have become an addiction as I had a lot to find for both kiddos rooms. Now I’m always looking for cute ones, but I don’t neeeeeeed any more!

Corbin’s lamp also has a cute silver geometric base to it. This piece I actually got before he was born from The Land of Nod. I had a slight online shopping addiction and The Land of Nod didn’t ship to Canada, so I had our Aunties bring it across the line for us, as they have a place in the US. What we do to get beautiful items we fall in love with!  P.S. The Land of Nod now ships to Canada!!!!!

And lastly I have a couple random frames that are silver. One frames a very special 3D sonogram photo of Corbin when he was in my tummy…

And the other frames a super cute kids quote ” Don’t Grow Up! It’s a Trap.” This digital print I purchased off an awesome shop on Etsy called PrintableSky. The Listing for this print can be found here.

I still have a few little items to get for the room such as a single dresser pull for his bedside table (Yay more dresser pulls), and maybe a bit more art for the walls. I think I may be purchasing some more digital downloads and getting them printed at a local print shop. There are so many cool prints on Etsy to choose from.

So far I’m loving his room and I’m almost at a place where I can mentally move on to another room in the house. Almost! I spend most of my time while laying next to Corbin waiting for him to fall asleep, thinking about what else I could add to the room to make it feel finished. Sometimes I think it will never feel completely finished. Then I quietly sneak out of the room.

I hope this post inspires you to look at the small things in a room as a way to pull the room together. You don’t have to go over board with a bold theme. Sometimes the little things just make everything else in the room work. Finding a simple colour and carrying it throughout the room in small ways can make the room look well put together.  Until next time, enjoy creating beautiful spaces, and beautiful things!
