So… you might think I’m a little crazy on this one (because Shawinkins does), but I love my big cute kidney bean bunny head Easter wreath!! LOL! I love that it was made out of simple items that I found around the house, it’s minimalistic without being overly Eastery (because Eastery is a word right?!?!), it’s pretty big, and I like big wreaths!!! I also like that it could be gussied up a bit if you are wanting a more kid friendly bunny (for instance you could add a bow or two), or it could be spray painted any colour to fit with your existing Easter decor. So many good things about this bunny head Easter wreath. LOL! So, stick around to find out how I made this Easter wreath out of kidney beans… because you need one in your life too!
So unfortunately I didn’t originally come up with the idea to glue beans to a wreath form and call it done! instead I was inspired by a fun tutorial found on Made Everyday’s blog called the Acorn Wreath. In this fun tutorial she mentioned that she thought that kidney beans could be used instead of the acorns. And I just so happened to have a bag of dried kidney beans in the pantry! Plus although her acorn wreath was beautiful, I didn’t have any acorns…
Unknown secret little tidbit about me: I really like small repeating patterns! I don’t know if it’s because I find it visually pleasing, makes me feel happy, or that it really doesn’t take much thought to create (because I don’t like thinking?), or maybe it’s just because I like small dainty things. I just know that I like it, and you may see this type of detail in a lot of my projects! (smile)
BEAN BUNNY HEAD EASTER WREATH TUTORIAL!
MATERIALS NEEDED TO MAKE A BEAN BUNNY HEAD EASTER WREATH
- Wreath Form (I used a 18 inch straw wreath form)
- 2 bags of Dry Red Kidney Beans (If you are going for this look, other wise there is also white kidney beans or a lot of other varieties of beans to choose from)
- Foam, Or anything around your home that you could sculpt into the shape of 2 bunny ears… newspaper balled up and shaped into a bunny ear then wrapped in tape???)
- knife to sculpt foam (if that’s what you are using for the ears)
- Tape (I have silver tape pictured in this photo, but I changed it to black tape to reduce what would be seen behind your beans)
- Hot Glue Gun
- A LOT OF HOT GLUE STICKS!!!!
- Skewers (to attach the ears to the wreath form)
METHOD TO MAKE A BEAN BUNNY HEAD EASTER WREATH
Step 1: Sculpt your Bunny Ears! I searched around my house for some foam because I thought I could sculpt it into the shape of an ear. The only foam I could find was not the exact shape that I wanted so I used balled up news paper to fill in the areas of the foam that were in dented. Then wrapped it all together in the shape of bunny ears that I liked. I suggest using a colour of tape that you don’t mind seeing behind the beans. I opted for sliver then changed my mind to black tape! Black tape for the WIN!
Step 2: Hot glue your kidney beans to your wreath form! If you start with your first bean on a slight angle and glue in a line one on top of the other the beans will create this twisting pattern around your wreath form. I like it!
NOTE: Gluing kidney beans to a large wreath form takes A LOOOONG TIME!!! Make sure this is not a last-minute project! I love this kind of project. gluing one after the other and fitting all the beans together is calming to me. but if that’s not the effect on you, then this project might not be for you! Just a heads up!! lol.
Step 3: Glue the kidney beans to your super cute bunny ears! I tried to do a different pattern on the front of the ears, compared to the sides of the ears. But do you! Whatever pattern you like will look awesome!
Step 4: Play around with placement of the ears. This is what I settled on. Make a small mark with a sharpie to mark the placement.
Step 5: Attach the ears to the Easter wreath form. As you can see from the last photo my ears didn’t lay exactly flush with the wreath form, so I had to lean the ears slightly forward, to allow the front edge of the ear to meet up with the wreath.
I cut my skewers in half (because all I hade were the super long skewers) and stabbed then between the beans on the wreath, on the angle that I wanted my ear to end up. I then shoved my super cute bunny ear onto the skewers until the front edge of the ear met up with the wreath form.
Then I filled the crack between the ear and the wreath with hot glue. I think each ear took 3 hot glue sticks.
Step 6: Finish the wreath by filling in the slight gap between the ear and wreath form with more kidney beans.
TAA DAAA!! DONE!!
Then hang it on your front door!! And enjoy!!
So… There you have my super awesome Bean Bunny Head Easter Wreath Tutorial. Lol… I really didn’t know what to call him!
I hope this little tutorial inspires you to make a fun bunny head Easter wreath and possibly branch out and decorate it with BEANS!! You could really use any little objects to create the same look. Such as beads, rocks, oooooo jelly beans!!! You could also just spray paint the whole thing after what ever colour you like. I did spray paint another bean wreath that I made years ago out of lima beans. I spray painted it light blue. Come to think of it I think it was because it was supposed to be an Easter wreath. who would have thunk it! Another bean Easter wreath! Maybe beans remind me of Easter!!
Until next time, enjoy creating with what you have around your home, and enjoy creating beautiful things every day!

Hahaha, I absolutely love and adore the photo near the end of your children laying on the ground with the bunny mask sunglasses. Very cute and creative design, I would add a large cotton ball or some kind of large wool ball on one of the sides to resemble a bushy tail.
Hehe. Thanks so much Nadalie! It’s hard to take photos without them in them. Lol. And that’s a great idea. I had not thought of adding a bunny tail. Maybe a large Pom Pom bunny tail. ❤️
