Kitchen Rag Rug!

I can’t seem to take a break from making awesome things, such as this rad kitchen rag rug. Not even while on vacation. This summer Shawn and I spent 10 days traveling around the B.C. interior in his parents camper. We spent a lot of time staying cool on the water because it was sooooooo hot. I love swimming. I think I may have been a fish in a past life.

However, I don’t enjoy the heat as mush as others. To survive the heat, if I am not in the water, I cover myself in wet towels. This trip I brought some sheets to make a kitchen rag rug. This kitchen rag rug was my shelter from the sun!

I used a variety of blue, white and grey colored sheets that I purchased from Value village.

I only did one round of each color and then alternated these colors instead of doing chucks of each color. I don’t know if I like it as much as the others I have made, but it will do.

I had a lot of attention while making this rag rug at the camp sites we stayed at. One man was so interested he just stood and watched me for a while. It was kind of creepy.

I made this rag rug to use in front of our kitchen sink. I also tried to use colors that Shawn would not find too girly as most things I make are girly. I think it was a success! What do you think?

I look forward to making one for the deck next.

I hope you are inspired to make a kitchen rag rug, and have fun while creating it too!

  • It’s so funny how people love to watch, isn’t it? Sad that it is such a rarity! I was working on one while waiting for my car to be repaired and a little girl was watching me so intently! She was so excited to sit next to me and see how it was done…. I ended up making her a little one for her dolly! What a joy that was… it was the only time I was glad my car was taking so long!

  • I made one with my Granny Holt one summer long ago. I enjoyed making it, but I can’t remember how to do it. I know you tie knots, but can’t remember how to connect the knots to form a rug. Could you refresh my memory on this. This would make a great Christmas Gift.

  • I LOVE this rag rug. I’m crafty but have never made a rug. Unfortunately I have no idea how you did this. Do you know of a tututorial that will show how you put it together? ?

    • This is a crochet rug. However I would love to try the braided technique in the future. Thanks for your question. Enjoy creating! ❤️

    • Thank you! The strips are ripped about 1 inch wide and I used approximately 3 queen sized sheets. Thanks for your question. Enjoy creating! ❤️
