List of Outdoor Family Adventures for Homebodies.

List of Family Adventures for Homebodies

I have been thinking a lot… about how I want to live, the person I want to be, the mother I want to be for my kids. And I came to one major theme… I want to be more ADVENTUROUS with the kiddos!! I used to be more adventurous… I mean, I’ve bungee jumped, skydived, gone deep sea fishing, done tones of camping, moved to the rocky mountains, traveled a we bit, sold my car and took the bus for a couple years! I mean, I used to be a bit risky in my life… but now I am very much a homebody. I play it safe. I like to stay at an optimal temperature of indoor warmth, not engaging in blistering hot summer actives (Kelowna gets HOT in the summer), nor exposing my body to the frigid outdoor winter temperatures (Kelowna gets COLD in the winter), so much rain in the Spring, and wind in the Fall… Staying indoors just feels better on the bod… but I really don’t want to live like this anymore. I want to be more Exciting!! And overall, I want to be a more adventurous mom for the kiddos!

So I’m thinking small… Lol… reasonable things I can do with the kiddos on my own while Shawnikins is at work… or more full on activities that we can do as a whole family.

So here I present you with my list of reasonable adventurous activities that I want to concur with my family. Let me know what your adventurous kid friendly activities are? Remember I’ m not super woman. I’m more of of the sitting down, drinking tea, crafting type of mom, that finds sneaking away to shower while the kids are AWAKE, to be the biggest adventure of my day. And by the way, when I succeed at showering without them finding out… I feel so accomplished! I know… I need to up the adventurous factor… Pronto!

LIST OF FAMILY FRIENDLY ADVENTURES FOR PEOPLE THAT USED TO BE ADVENTUROUS BEFORE KIDS, AND NOW WANT TO BE ADVENTUROUS AS PARENTS!

NOTE: The following adventures are organized by season.

Spring Family Adventures

SPRING (Rainy Day Adventures)

So you are sitting inside with a hot cup or coffee/tea and it’s raining outside, the kids are peacefully playing in their rooms (not fighting), the house is clean, the house is your oyster, but then you remember… I made a resolution to be more adventurous! Here is what you do…

  • Put your rain jacket and boots on, and go for a walk in the forest (not without a bear bell, and bear spray of course). The thick trees will help reduce the rain drops so you don’t get toooo wet.
  • Go rainbow hunting! Find that treasure at the end of the rainbow!! You can stay out of the rain, and drive to find your treasure!
  • Visit some baby animals at a farm, possibly inside a barn as to not get wet.
  • Go to the mountain so the rain will be snow! Enjoy some warm spring tubing, ice skating, or tobogganing!

Summer Family Adventures

SUMMER (Hot Adventures – near water to cool down)

  • Camping by a body of water! Make sure the lake is close enough so that you can jump in to cool off any time you feel the need.
  • A day at the water slides! Full of fun for the kids, and lots of things to do to keep you cool.
  • Day at the beach positioned perfectly under the shade of a tree! With lots of yummy cool beverages.
  • Boating adventure! Weather you have your own boat, an awesome friends boat, or a rental… enjoy tubing, water skiing, fishing, or my fave pontoon party boat that is easy to jump off of, enjoy a nice swim and climb back in…. pontoon boats also usually come with a shady area to enjoy, making it easy to avoid the heat!

Fall Family Adventures

FALL (The best season for Adventures – not too hot or too cold)

  • Go for a walk, kick up the leaves, with a hot beverage. Collect cool mother nature items that could be DIYed into beautiful home decor, or crafts for the kids. Items like sticks, branches, rocks, or pine cones, all make fun creations.
  • Get your cozy clothes on, and visit a pumpkin patch/apple orchard. Collect your own pumpkins, and apples, and take them home to have a pumpkin carving party, or an apple cider making party. Yumm yumm.
  • Drink your apple cider around a bonfire, roast some marshmallows, make s’mores, have a friendly game of football, or baseball, then laugh around the fire with great family and friends.
  • Host a Halloween party… feeling a little more ambitious, how about creating a haunted house in your garage for the kiddos. This is something I have always wanted to do. I’m just waiting till the kids will enjoy it, more then give them nightmares!

Winter Family Adventures

WINTER (the Freeeezzzing cold Adventures)

  • Go to your local mountain for a day of winter activities. Bring up a portable propane fire pit, and a portable BBQ, to enjoy an awesomely warm tailgate dinner at the end of the day.
  • Flood an area of the back yard to create an ice rink. Teach the kids to skate, or enjoy a fun game of hockey with all your buddies, right at your own home. Warm beverages and a rink side fire pit would make it perfect!
  • Take the kids on a gondola ride to see the winter wonderland from high in the air, and bundled up in warmth!
  • Drive around admiring all the beautiful Christmas lights, with warm beverages, and sweet Christmas tunes on, of course.

Now, after creating this list I feel more inspired!! I guess these activities sound more fun than being cooped up with the kids running around the house, throwing themselves down the stairs, jumping up and down, and stomping their feet because they have to release their crazy amounts of energy somehow!

Here is to a year of fun family adventures! That are not too uncomfortable… wink!

If you have any other fun family adventures, that are not too hot, or too cold… I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments below! I can’t wait to hear from you!

Until next time, enjoy an adventurous life even if you are more of a homebody, and create beautiful things everyday!

XO JCL
