I have a thing for fabric so searching through quilts on Pinterest is totally my eye candy, that I can’t get enough of! I too can’t wait to find the time to create some of these awesome quilts! And by that I mean when both of my kids start school….. I know! By then my list of quilts will be crazy long, so watch out internet… you may be bombarded with my exciting sewing adventures in like… 3 years!! (Wink)

Tiny Tile Quilt – from Purl Soho
I love the dainty prints in quilts, and this one has it girrrll (or booooyyyy)! I know it looks a little intimidating, but trust me it’s not. All it this pattern is, is a 5 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch square with a 2 inch by 2 inch square sewed to each of the corners of the larger squares! Fun easy and you can be as random as you want with it! I think it’s look is simple, minimal yet fun and playful! I love it! Plus Purl Soho has tones of free pattern tutorials to check out! They are a must follow for so many fun creative projects!
Minimal Triangles Quilt Pattern – from Simple Simon and Co
So, I have a thing for Half Square Triangle (HST) quilt patterns! I think there are 3 of them within this round-up, but this one is probably the easiest, and fastest to create, which is important in a beginner quilt, or when looking to create a quilt as a gift! I looove this simple yet whimsical pattern, and it can be customized into any size that you want. You could make the HST’s larger or smaller, add more of them or less of them, to make your quilt for a crib or a king sized bed! Lots of options here, and I love them all! Also, Simple Simon and Co has tones more beautiful quilting patterns that can be found here. Enjoy!

Indian Summer FREE Baby Quilt Pattern – from Suzy Quilts
SO, I may or may not have a girl crush on Suzy!! (wink) I think she’s awesome! Love her creativity, her beautiful blog and even how she writes! I always want to read more and she is so funny throughout every post! To tell you the truth, her blog is what I wish mine could be (mostly sewing/quilting related), but I just don’t have time with the kiddos. I’d be posting only once a month, if that, if I was a strictly quilting blog. Makes me wonder how Suzy does it! Anyhoo… side tangent…
Suzy’s quilts are awesome, so awesome that I had a hard time picking just one of her quilts to add to this list of beautiful free modern quilt patterns… So I added 2!!
This first one is another HST pattern, and it make my heart happy! Just look at what a half square can do!!! They are easy to create and Suzy’s patterns are super easy to understand. Overall awesomeness right here!!!
Retro Plaid Free Quilt Pattern – from Suzy Quilts
Here is the second quilt from Suzy Quilts, to add to this list of awesome free modern quilt patterns! Again she is so awesome ( I mean her quilts are – wink)! The fabric colours and dainty prints are dreamy! I also love her funny commentary on how she named this quilt. I cant wait to make this quilt for a new babe in my life!
Quilts with big pieces are great for beginners, because they are easier to cut, work with, and they sew together quickly so you get the satisfaction of completing a quilt quicker than that of one with smaller pieces.
I highly recommend checking out all of Suzy quilts! A link to all her free modern quilt patterns can be found here!
The Easiest Quilt in the World – from Southern Fabric Blog
Such an awesome modern bold print, that is way easier to put together than you may think!! People will think that you are a professional quilter when you whip one of these puppies up as an awesome gift. This quilt is also very gender neutral. You can keep the black and white pattern top and be more colourful with the backing like this quilt! Or you could add colour to the plus signs to funk it up! I love all the options that you could create with this awesome free modern quilt pattern! Have fun!
Triangle Modern Quilt Pattern! – from Making Things is Awesome
Shameless promo of my Modern Triangle Quilt Pattern in this lineup of free modern quilt patterns! Once again this pattern has tones of ways to customize it. By using different colours you can create different patterns, or keep it random, as I did. Triangles are fun to sew together, and if you grab yourself a triangle ruler, the triangles are super easy to create! Let me know if you create a triangle quilt pattern because I always love seeing your creations too!
Diagonal Stripe Quilt – from Purl Soho
I was searching for a fun modern stripe quilt because they are simple, fun and depending on your colour selections super modern looking! During my search I found this Diagonal Stripe Quilt that just upped the moderness factor to 100%! I love the look of this quilt, and the muted colours of the fabric with a splash of neon is crazy fun!
Stripe quilts are super easy to put together, heck my hubby actually made one for his mom one year for Christmas! Yes you heard that right. I even have a video of him making it for proof, because I knew my mother in law would not believe him. Lol! So if he can do it… anyone can create a stripe quilt too!
Chevron Quilt Pattern – from Making Things is Awesome
Here is another example of a HST quilt! It’s chevron! Totally a modern quilt pattern! Easy, fun, and you can make it with random patterned fabrics (as shown in this quilt), or you could use 2 different coloured fabrics to create the contrasting chevron pattern! Perfect for all of the chevron lovers out there! (wink)
Gingham Coral Quilt Top – from Cluck Cluck Sew
I Love the simplify to a good Gingham quilt pattern! I actually made a Gingham quilt pattern tutorial too, that can be found here, but I have to admit I love Allison’s quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew a little better. She was my inspiration! I love that she added a little patterned fabric to it to give it a bit more playfulness! Perfect for a baby or kids quilt! This patchwork quilt is modern, and easily customized to either gender, or any personality. Love it!
Queen Size Faux Chenille Quilt – from Making Things is Awesome
And last but not least, my quilt that gets the most compliments, questions, and comments!!! My Queen Sized Faux Chenille Quilt! Due to the number and small size of the patchwork quilt top, this was by far the most time-consuming quilt I have made, but it’s very easy to put together!
So you are thinking FAUX CHENILLE? Right?!?! It’s a totally different way to put your quilt together, but it’s fun and the results are amazing! Check out my in-depth tutorial to find out how to make one too. You can totally use this technique to create a smaller quilt too (as I did with this quilt here). Have fun, and if you have any questions at all, I’d be more than happy to help you out, if I know the answer. Lol!
Until next time, enjoy perusing these awesome free modern quilting patterns, and remember to create beautiful things everyday!
