Spring is here, so you know what that means… it’s time to hard-boil those eggs and get the kiddos to dye them some pretty colors! And then break their little hearts by peeling the shells off to eat the egg. Because I’m not wasting those yummy eggs. But eureka! What if your could reuse those broken shells to decorate some plastic eggs and then they could live on forEVER!! Kids little hearts are whole again!

HOW TO MAKE BROKEN EGG SHELL EASTER EGGS
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Plastic Eggs (We used ones that have have a string attached to be able to hang Like these Hanging Plastic Easter Eggs)
- Egg Shells From Dyed hard boiled eggs
- Kids Easter Egg Dying Kit (we used the brand PAAS)
- Craft Glue
- Fingers
METHOD TO MAKE BROKEN EGG SHELL EASTER EGGS:
STEP 1: Dye some hard boiled eggs. We used a kids Easter egg kit that came with 6 different dyes like this one called PAAS Egg Decorating Kit.
After the eggs were perfectly dyed and painted with sparkles (that’s what was in the egg kit we had), we kept the decorated eggs in the fridge to eat and then just saved the shells as we ate them to make some Broken Egg Shell Easter Eggs! Also called killing children’s Easter egg dreams…

So, step 2 is to peel and save your egg shells. Just leave them on a plate on the counter to dry.
Ivy was totally miserable while peeling the shells off her perfectly dyed Easter egg… It must have been only a millisecond that her face actually looked happy about this. and I miraculously was able to capture her fake joy! Score… good memories made!
STEP 3: Cover your fake plastic egg in Kids Craft Glue… You probably don’t need as much as Ivy did…
The string also helped with the decorating process, by holding it up while adding the beautiful egg shells. NOTE: If you use too much glue the egg shells may begin to dip off the egg…
You can see in the next photo that Ivy’s shells began to dip a bit because of all the glue she needed to use. I just pushed them up and they were fine! Beautiful!
Or you can be like Corbin and just give up here because gluing egg shells onto an egg is not your jam….
Ivy super impressed with her completed Broken Egg Shell Easter Egg (she really was, shes just goofy)…
… And Corbin posing with “his egg” that I made for him because although sometimes he doesn’t have the attention span to glue small pieces onto something, I still have the need to make it look like he did… Wink!
I hope that you feel inspired to create some Broke Egg Shell Easter Eggs with your discarded dyed Easter egg dreams… Make the kids happy and give it a try!
Until next time, enjoy creating with your kiddos, and making beautiful things everyday!
