SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE A WATERCOLOR PAINTING:
- Watercolor Paints
- Watercolor Paper
- Paint Brushes
- Paint Tray
- Cup of Water

- Easy to Remove Tape like Green Painters Tape, or Washi Tape (although I didn’t find my washi tape to work very well.
- Inspiration!!
STEPS TO MAKE A WATERCOLOR PUMPKIN PATCH PAINTING:
Step 1: Find a frame that you can imagine a super cute pumpkin patch painting in, and cut your watercolor paper to fit that frame.
Step 2: Use your easy to remove tape to tape down all the edges of your paper to your Painting board (about 1/4 inch around the edges of the paper).
Step 3: Draw out your idea lightly on your watercolor paper with a pencil. Like this…
Step 4: Mix a bit of your watercolor paints on your tray with water, and start painting!!
I started by outlining the pumpkins in a darker orange, and then filling them in with 2 lighter shades of orange and orangy-yellow. Like this…
Step 5: Then I used some yellowy-green watercolors to paint the corn field. And a bunch of different greens to make little blades of grass.
For the grass I suggest starting in the distance and moving forward with each upward flick of the blades of grass.
Step 6: I painted a blue mountainside in the distance, and added some grey sky (I used very watered down grey-black for the sky). Like this…
Step 7: Then I changed my mind about the blue mountainside, so I darkened it a bit. I love how watercolors are very forgiving. If you don’t like something on your painting you can use a paper towel to soak it up, or you can add more colors to make a new color.
Step 8: Let it dry while it is laying flat, and do a little happy dance because you are now an artist!
Step 9: Peel off the tape and frame your masterpiece!! And then make art for your whole entire house!! Wink!
I hope you feel inspired to create your own watercolor painting. I think it would be so much fun to take some photos of some views around where you live, and then watercolor paint these beautiful scenes and frame them for your own home.
Decorating your home with personalized pieces is awesome. I love when every piece of décor in a home has meaning! Home décor life goals!
Until next time, enjoy experimenting with some fun watercolor paintings, and creating beautiful things everyday!
