The kiddos are always scheming up reasons to make, buy, eat, sniff, treats… Are your kids the same?? They say… “If I eat all my dinner?”, ” If I clean my room?”, “If I’m good in the car?”, If I’m good during shopping?”, “If I eat all my breakfast?”, “If I pee in the potty?”, “It’s going to be Valentine’s Day in 2 weeks… And we need to make treats?!?!”
Sometimes I feel like the kids lives revolve around what they can do to get their next treat fix. I have little sugar addicts. They never give up… Just today I found Ivy hiding on the basement stairs eating white cheddar rice cakes (she thinks these are treats). They are starting to lie and hide their addictive habits…
Anyways, I gave in and made them these easy cute Valentine’s Day cupcake treats. I know… I’m an enabler. But they are soooooo goooood!
Honesty Moment: I rarely bake treats, because baking is not my favorite pastime… It’s probably a good thing, because I have a very hard time controlling myself around treats (possibly where my kids addictions come from). So if I do bake, my go to recipes usually always involve a premixed box. Shhhhhhhh… don’t tell!
I am however into making decorations for anything and everything… including these cute Valentine’s Day cupcakes. They were made from a box of red velvet cupcake mix, a can of pink frosting, and sprinkled with heart shaped sprinkles! YUMMY! Yes that is the extent of my baking.
HOW TO MAKE HEART CUPCAKE TOPPERS
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Wooden Skewers
- Card-stock Paper (in different Valentine’s Day colors)
- Heart Shaped Paper Craft Punch
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue Sticks
- Black Felt Tip Pen (Optional)
METHOD:
Step 1: Use your Heart Shaped Paper Craft Punch and some different colored Card Stock Paper to create some cute paper hearts.
Step 2: Use your Hot Glue Gun to attach the cute hearts to the end of your Wooden Skewers.
Step 3: (Optional) Write cute sayings, or your loved ones names on the hearts.
Step 4: Stick them into the top of your cupcakes.
NOTE: If your wooden skewers are too long you can trim them to the size you need.
Check out other ways I have used these Heart Skewers (cupcake toppers):

I hope these simple (premixed box) cupcakes, with cute DIY cupcake toppers, inspires you to make something special for the loved ones in your life.
You don’t have to be good at baking to follow the directions on the back of a cupcake mix box! If I can do it… You got this!
Until next time, high five to easy cute treats, and enjoy creating beautiful things everyday!

I’m the worse at making cupcakes – but decorating up some store bought ones is definitely up my alley!! Thanks so much sharing this little creative tip!
I thought I was too. But a box of cupcake mix is pretty hard to mess up if you follow the directions. Put some icing on em and decorate. Easy Peasy!
very helpful! will definitely keep it in mind, thanks for sharing!
