Easy Vinyl Plank Flooring Without Removing the Baseboards

This past week was called “new flooring week” at our house. Unfortunately it’s not for me to enjoy… but it is in our house! We have a suite in our home, which is in dire need or a refresh. AKA, a bathroom reno, kitchen face lift, new paint on the walls, and of course NEW FLOORS!

This past weekend we ripped up old carpet, scrapped up old glued on flooring (super fun), sanded the subflooring, filled holes in the subflooring, and then installed new floors!! And by we I mean Shawnikins did it all! Well, the kids helped assess the carpet ripping up situation, but besides that, it was all my man!

Check out a project I did build all by myself… these huge extra space storage shelves!

Magic Baseboards

We started off by removing some of the baseboards, but discovered that this was a lot of work in itself. If there is an easier faster way to do manual labor bring it on. As long as it still looks good, and is good quality of course.

So, in the above photo (behind the kids inspecting the carpet removal), there is now a space under the baseboards, which was previously filled by the carpet. This space is bigger than the thickness of the new floors we were installing. Thus would look unfinished if the baseboards were not altered in some way. And removing all the baseboards without damaging them was very time consuming, and super risky too (didn’t want to damage them suckers).

The solution… quarter round molding to save the day! All we did (and again I mean all Shawnkins did), was secure the quarter round to the bottom of the baseboards, and it’s like magic!

You can see in this next photo the quarter round half way finished to see the difference… and yes… there are kid finger prints all over the fire place! Awesome!

Awesome Flooring

I love, love, love how the new floors turned out. They are super easy to install loose lay vinyl planks. which literaly means you just lay them down and they dont move. They are secure when you glue down the planks on the parimiter.

These floors look great, they are super durable, and if for some reason one plank ever did need replacing, you can just lift the one piece out, and drop a new one in, instead of having to rip up half of the floor.

Over all great, not braking the bank, good looking flooring! I just wish it was in my home, so I could enjoy it! (We will probably be putting it in our laundry room, which makes me happy).

The color we went with of the Easyway vinyl plank flooring is called Yaletown. I love this light warm gray-ish wood grainy flooring (is that how you describe flooring?), and it seems too look good in any lighting, such as the bathroom which has no natural light, the living room which has floor to ceiling windows, and even at night (in the dark… just kidding, with the lights on of course).

The kids were super helpful with the whole process too… I hear… wink!

I look forward to sharing more of our suite over haul with you as we find the time to do it… renos take so much more time than planned!

Oh, and we also have lots of other projects in our own home on the go, such as our whole unfinished basement, where there will eventually be the kids playroom/rec room (half done at the moment), a guest room, possibly new bathroom, and my new craft room! So much fun!

Until next time, enjoy creating a home you love, and creating awesomely beautiful things everyday!
