These delicious Homemade Croutons are another one of my mom’s recipes that I have continued to make throughout the years. It’s pretty much croutons on crack!! Beware they are so delicious you may want to eat them all in one sitting. They have a kick to them that makes them very addicting! This recipe is also super amazing at using up all your bread ends. You know the bread that is all crust, that no one wants to eat which end up piling up in the back of the fridge. Whenever I see about 3 bags of bread ends in the fridge I know it’s time to make these super delicious croutons to add to a super yummy salad dinner!
INGREDIENTS
- Random Breads (bread ends, bread that is going a bit hard or fresh bread or bagels are all delicious options). You could also use some homemade bread! Check out my recipe for making the most delicious Homemade Crusty Bread here!
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & Pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Step 1: Cut all bread into bite sized cubes.
Step 2: Add all ingredients into a frying pan on medium heat. Add bread first, then sprinkle on olive oil and Worcestershire sauce making sure that there is a little (or a lot) sauce on each crouton. I like a lot of Worcestershire sauce, so if you feel like not every crouton had sauce on it, add more Worcestershire sauce. It really depends on how many bread ends you had. Just make sure they all have some sauce on them!! Then add salt and pepper! They should look something like this…
Step 3: Let the bread sauté until it starts to brown, keep mixing until most sides of the croutons are crisp. DON”T BURN THEM!
NOTE: The croutons will crisp up more as they cool.
Step 4: Remove from heat and let cool. Enjoy!!!! And try not to eat them all!!!!
I put my homemade croutons on a big salad. I like a lot of things in my salads. Today these are the ingredients that I had on hand (see photo below).
Does anyone else put stake seasoning on your chicken?!?! It’s super yummy and a very easy way to spice up your chicken.
Other ingredients that I often put in my salads are:
- Purple or Green sliced cabbage
- Grilled asparagus
- Cooked green peas
- Sliced snap peas
- Sliced radishes
- Sliced green onions
- Sprouts (made at home)
- Sliced mushrooms
- Avocado chunks
- Feta cheese
- Cooked quinoa
- Sliced beats!
I topped this salad with a bit of Toasted Sesame salad dressing. So Yummy! Not exactly a weight loss dressing, so if you are looking for a great way to zest up your salads, Apple Cider Vinegar (well-known for its weight loss properties) is awesome on salads!
I always make my salads big, so that I can have left overs the next day. The problem is that I think this salad is so delicious that I eat all the leftovers for breakfast, and the salad doesn’t even make it till lunch or dinner time… EVER!
I hope you try out these super awesome homemade croutons. They jazz up an everyday normal salad, and make your taste buds dance, because they have a bit of a spicy kick! They make salads feel like a huge filling meal, and give salads just what they need to become one of my favorite dinner meals. You will not be disappointed!
I feel that I have to be truthful about the fact that these super awesome homemade croutons will NOT help you lose weight… I know… if only! But that being said if you are on a weight loss journey (as I am), and you have to make a super delicious meal for your friends or family, why not make these croutons for them to add to a salad, so that serving your guests a salad for dinner is a lot more filling! Then you can just skip the croutons. or just eat one… (wink).. if you feel confident you can eat just one!! They are awesome!! I would not have that kind of will power. One turns into a whole bag waaaaay to easy.
I hope you try this super easy recipe for homemade croutons. Let me know of the ways you use up all the bread ends in your home? Until next time, enjoy creating yummy food and creating beautiful things!
XO JCL
P.S. If you don’t eat all of these super tasty homemade croutons in one sitting, they keep great in a container in the fridge!
