MMMmmmmm Spaghetti! One of those meals that is super easy to whip up and makes your tummy comfy and cozy inside. It’s Miss Ivy Lynnkins favorite meal, so I thought I’d find a recipe that we all loved, as we might eat it more than the norm these days. My kids can be a bit picky about the food that enters their mouth. I don’t know why but of course my children have completely different tastes in food. Ivy loves spaghetti, and yes Corbin won’t eat it. It’s a tomato thing for Corbin. Corbin loves fish and curry, Ivy hates them. Ivy eats most vegetables except avocados, and Corbin will eat a whole avocado for every meal if I let him. For each meal, one child will eat a few parts, and the other child will eat the others. So I guess it works out. This spaghetti sauce recipe is my go to and ivy eats it all, and Corbin will eat plain noodles with butter and parmesan cheese. I’ll put avocado on the side for him. That reminds me! I saw an avocado noodle sauce on Pinterest lately. I’ll have to try that for Corbin soon! I hope you love this Best spaghetti sauce EVER recipe as much as Ivy does!
So… Spaghetti Sauce! I looked up the best spaghetti sauce ever, and found this recipe by John Chandler called “World’s Best Pasta Sauce.” I have made his recipe a few times and it really is DEEEELLLICIOUS! But… I have changed a few of the ingredients to make our own super awesome version of this sauce. It’s super yummy in our tummy! Check it out!
INGREDIENTS FOR THE BEST SPAGHETTI SAUCE EVER RECIPE
- 1 package of Italian sausage. If you like heat, you can use spicy Italian sausage, but if not stick to the sweet Italian sausage.
- 1 package of ground beef (I often don’t add the beef, as I try to minimise the amount of meat we consume. The sauce is great with or with out it) NOTE: the photos of this recipe do not have beef in them.
- 1 Medium Onion chopped
- 3 Garlic Cloves crushed
- 2 28 oz Cans of Diced Tomatoes
- 1 6 oz Can of Tomato Paste
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Red Wine
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Oregano
- 2 Tablespoons Italian Seasoning
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Fennel Seed!!
Fennel Seed is the secret ingredient in my spaghetti sauce! You may think its a bit strange, but fennel takes your spaghetti sauce to an authentic Italian level. Your guests will wonder what you put in it to make it sooo good. and it’s just Fennel seeds! Trust me! If you are super apprehensive to add it, I’d say start by adding 1/4 teaspoon and build it from there! You will want to add more each time (wink).
METHOD TO MAKE THE BEST SPAGHETTI SAUCE EVER!
Step 1: Sauté meat, onions, and garlic in a large sauce pan over medium heat, until meat is browned.
Step 2: Add all other ingredients to the sauce pan.
Step 3: Bring the sauce to a bubble and let simmer for a couple of hours, stir periodically.
And that’s IT!! Now to put it on something…
BONUS SPAGHETTI SQUASH FOR SPAGHETTI SAUCE RECIPE
I thought I’d throw this little Spaghetti Squash recipe in here, as this is how we cut some of the carbs in this meal. Using Spaghetti squash as a noodle substitute is awesome! It pretty much takes on the flavor of what ever you put on it, and you don’t feel guilty about eating a huge plate! I like my spaghetti squash slightly undercooked, so it has a slight crunch to it. I think it gives the whole meal a better texture instead of it just being mush.
INGREDIENTS TO MAKE SPAGHETTI SQUASH
- Spaghetti Squash
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- Salt and Pepper
METHOD TO MAKE SPAGHETTI SQUASH
Step 1: Pre heat oven to 425 degrees
Step 2: Cut squash in half length ways. I cut it a little off center and go slightly diagonally to the other side of the stem, to eliminate the need to cut through the stem! both sides turn out the same size and its much easier to cut though.
Step 3: Spoon out seeds. I save my seeds because… did you know that you can roast all types of squash seeds to snack on, not just pumpkin seeds. Spaghetti squash seeds are super yummy and a healthy snack idea! Plus less waste, if you care about that kind of stuff (wink).
Step 4: Add one tablespoon of olive oil to each half of spaghetti squash and spread it around. it should coat the entire inside and edge of the spaghetti squash.
Step 5: Sprinkle a bit of Salt and pepper on the inside of the spaghetti squash.
Step 6: Place spaghetti squash face down on tin foil in the oven for 30 minutes.
Step 7: Remove from oven and you can let it cool a bit (to make it easier to hold while you remove the insides), scrap the inside of the spaghetti squash with a fork. It will become noodle like!
Step 8: Pile a bunch on your plate and top with the Best Spaghetti Sauce Ever!
Put a little parmesan on top and put it in your mouth!!
YUMMM!
Or put it on regular pasta noodles, or in your lasagna!!! Super Yumm! I have made it all these ways and it is AWESOME every time! I do make regular pasta noodles for the kiddos. They prefer a big noodle like bow tie or linguine noodles. I think it’s easier for them to hold onto and get in their mouths. There is too much waste and way more mess when you serve them spaghetti noodles. Just saying…
Anyways, I hope this recipe converts your Italian cooking ways to use fennel! I have sure enjoyed adding fennel seed to my Italian dishes and I’m so glad I discovered this spice! I would have never thought it would make such a yummy difference. Enjoy cooking and creating beautiful things!
