Fall… The most wonderful time of the year! I love getting cozy in sweaters and boots, going for walks and kicking up the leaves, and the weather is not too hot and not too cold… It’s the most perfect time of the year! Oh, and did I mention all the super cute Fall decor!! And I’m a sucker for a great Fall decor sign!!
I’m in love with everything fall decor, and would love to cover my walls in fall signs to let everyone know how I feel, but alas… I always think… one day I’ll make that…
But for those of you that would just like to buy a beautiful Fall sign, here is a list of some of my favorite awesome Fall Decor Signs that I have been keeping my little eye on lately:
- Hello Fall – from Pine Flat Decor
- Happy Fall Y’all – from Lux and Me Prints
- Hey There Pumpkin – from Lux and Me Prints
- Fall is in the Air – from PCB Home
- Cuddle Weather – from PCB Home
Ok… We are getting side tracked with beautiful Fall decor signs, and I almost forgot the reason for this tutorial… To show you how you can make a super cute, and easy, Fall sign! All on your own!!
SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE A FALL DECOR SIGN:
- An Old Frame
- Black Spray Paint
- Drywall Compound
- 12mm Wood Beads
- Putty Knife
STEPS TO MAKE A FALL DECOR SIGN OUT OF WOODEN BEADS:
Step 1: Find an old frame. I found this one in my basement, that had it’s glass broken, which is great, because we will not be using the glass. Then take your old frame apart. You should just have a frame and the backing which is helpful if it is stronger than just a piece of cardboard (so your drywall compound doesn’t crack).
Step 2: Spray Paint just the outer frame. I chose to paint mine Flat Black By Rust-oleum, one of my all-time favs.
Step 3: Using a putty Knife, slather a bunch of drywall compound onto the back piece of your frame. Like this…

You can create any kind of texture that you desire with the drywall compound, lots of crazy lumps and bumps, or smooth as something that resembles ship-lap. I went with the second style of texture. Just make sure the drywall compound is thick enough all over the area you will be adding the wooden beads, so that they stay put!
Step 4: Start placing your 12 mm wood beads side by side each other, to create the word you want to spell. I chose to make the word FALL!! Because creative, and I’m crazy like that. Like this…
And it turned out like this… I ended up not liking the last little bead on there, so I took it off, and very carefully filled and smoothed out the drywall compound again.
Step 5: Use your Putty Knife to remove about a 1/4 inch of the drywall compound off the edges of the back of the frame so that the frame will be able to fit back on once the whole thing is dry. The edges should look something like this…
Step 6: Let it dry over night… The drywall compound will take at least 24hours to dry (depending on how thick you layered it on), but when it does dry it will turn from a grey into WHITE!! Magic!
Step 7: Once the drywall compound is completely dry, put the frame back around the backing, and put it out on display for everyone to enjoy!
I hope you feel inspired to create a super cute Fall decor sign for your own home now. It’s easy to make your own home decor once you get a little inspiration! I look forward to creating some more fun fall decor to make our home feel a little more cozy!
Until next time, enjoy the season of sweater weather, and creating beautiful things everyday!
