Homemade gifts for the grandparents are where it’s at. It’s a gift from the heart, inexpensive, thoughtful, and what grandparent wouldn’t want their walls plastered in photos of their grandchildren?!?! Am I right grandparents of the world?
It’s also a great gift idea if it’s last minute and you want to impress. Just whip this bad boy up, and you are set!
HOW TO MAKE A SHADOW BOX GIFT FOR GRANDPARENTS
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Shadow Box Frame (the one in this tutorial was from HomeSense)
- Photos
- Letters
- Heart Shaped Rocks
- Pins
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue Sticks
- Photo Printer (optional)
METHOD:
Step 1: Decide what words you want to use, and find a way to organize the letters so that you can fit photos and decorations around them.
I was looking for a word that would fit with my kiddos names and “Grandchildren” worked for us.
Other Words that relate to Grandparents include:
- Grandkids
- Family
- Grandparents
- Our Little Loves
- Our Kids Kids
- Our Brood
- Our Descendants
- Heirs to Our Thrown
I think there are some pretty good options on that list! Wink! I think if I was to do this gift idea over I would use “Heirs to Our Thrown”!

Step 2: Get some photos printed, and organize them with your letters.
Step 3: Add some cute decorations to fill in the gaps.
I used some of the heart shaped rocks that my dad and I collected during days spent at the beach together. Gaaaaa… So thoughtful and meaningful… I know!!
Step 4: Once you are happy with the placement of the contents in your shadow box frame, use hot glue and/or pins to secure everything in place.
Taadaaa! You just created the most thoughtful easy grandparent gift idea. I mean you could use this idea for anyone, but you would have to come up with some different words on your own. Good luck!
Until next time, enjoy giving homemade gifts, and creating beautiful things everyday!
