DIY Tooth Fairy House to Hang On Your Child’s Bedroom Door – Easy Access for the Tooth Fairy!

“Look at the lovely little teeth, with bits of gum and blood on them” – The Tooth Fairy (Rise of the Guardians)

Have you seen the “Rise of the Guardians” movie?!?! If not… you should! I love how the Tooth Fairy is portrayed, and her role in preserving all the childhood memories, that are saved in each little tooth. I love that idea!

Well, Corbin has his first wiggly tooth! Something that he has been excitedly anticipating since the day he turned 6! He would say to anyone he introduced himself too, ” Hi I’m Corbin, I’m 6 years old, and I don’t have any loose teeth yet!” So cute!! But now it’s happening for real and he’s STOKED!!

So to celebrate his stokedness, and his first loose tooth, I made him… Well I made both the kiddos, their very own Tooth Fairy houses, to put their cute baby teeth in. Then they can hang their Tooth Fairy houses on their bedroom door, so that when the Tooth Fairy comes, she will be able to find that tooth for sure… I think sometimes she doesn’t come if she can’t find the tooth under certain little kids pillows, especially for very light sleeping kids!!! Or she just forgets!! Wink!!

Aren’t they the sweetest! The top of the tooth is a little pocket to slip the baby teeth in and for tiny Tooth Fairy hands to get it out safely to preserve all those precious childhood memories. Then the Tooth Fairy can leave a little token for the kids to discover in the morning!

DIY Cute Tooth Fairy Houses

I decided to hand stitch the edges of the house to give to it a more handmade whimsical look. And so anyone can make these Tooth Fairy Houses, since you don’t need a sewing machine! Although I usually love sewing everything with my sewing machine, I know some of you like a good non-sewing machine project once in a while! Wink! And it’s fun to try something different!

P.S. You can totally use a sewing machine instead of hand stitching it if that’s your jam!

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE A TOOTH FAIRY HOUSE:

NOTE: This tutorial is to make 1 Tooth Fairy House, adjust supplies needed for more houses.

  • Two 5 inch x 5 inch fabric (I used a different piece of fabric for the front and back)
  • Two Triangle Pieces of fabric (cut a 5 1/2 inch x 5 1/2 inch square and find the center of the top, then cut from the bottom corners to the center top to make a triangle)
  • Cut 2 pieces of White Fabric to look like a Tooth. (I used a White Minky Fabric, and just freehand cut out a tooth)
  • Poly Fil Stuffing
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Needle
  • 9 inch long Ribbon – Velvet Ribbon (to be able to hang it from a door handle. If you have a bigger door knob than mine, you may need to adjust the length of your ribbon)

STEPS TO MAKE A TOOTH FAIRY HOUSE:

Step #1: Cut out all your pieces of fabric. See supply list above.

Step #2: Make your tooth pocket. Sew 2 tooth shaped fabrics together, with face sides together by hand stitch around the edge of the tooth. Remember to leave an inch hole to turn it the right way out. Snip corners of the tooth so that when you turn it the right way out it lays flat. Turn right side out and stitch the hole closed.

Step #4: Hand stitch around the edge of the house with some embroidery thread. Hand stitch around the top of the roof, and then stitch the roof to the house, but leave a spot open to be able to stuff it before sewing it closed.
