Ivy’s Oompa Loompa, Pink Sheep, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Play Dough, 3rd Birthday Party!!

Yup!! That’s what Ivy requested for her birthday party theme this year… A Oompa Loompa, Pink Sheep, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Play Dough Party, well not the play dough part, but that’s her current obsession, so I threw it into the mix too! Why not!?!? I’m surprised that Babies didn’t come up in the theme again!! Here’s Ivy’s last years party (Ivy’s Baby Doll 2nd Birthday Party).

So this year Ivy went through a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Movie phase… the newer one with Johnny Depp, I know.. a bit creepy… She’s always liked creepy shows… Coraline, Hotel Transylvania (All 3 of them), Oh, Monster House (not recommended for kids her age at all, but somehow she saw it, and she thinks it’s awesome), The BFG (beautiful, yet a bit creepy), Beauty and the Beast (“the beast is just a sad guy” says Ivy), and now Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! I have to note that she won’t watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory until I fast forward it to the part where they get to the factory… pretty much half way through the movie. I can’t guess why?!?! EVERYTHING IS CANDY RELATED!! And for some reason the Pink Sheep, near the end of the movie really stand out for her, and Violet the Humongous Growing Blueberry Girl, oh, and of course, the Oompa Loompas!! All of which I tried to incorporate into her party!

So here is a little 3rd Birthday Party inspiration, if your little threenager is into the same things as my IVY!!

PARTY DECORATIONS: FOR A OOMPA LOOMPA, PINK SHEEP, CHOCOLATE FACTORY PARTY!

#1: Oompa Loompa Water Colour Painting! The only Oompa Loompa that made it to the party… I had intended to paint a few smaller Oompa Loompas, and hide them around the house for the kiddos to find (kind of a seek and find game)… but that didn’t happen.

#2: Pink Sheep Cotton Candy Holder. Ivy requested REAL pink sheep at her party! She’s a dreamer!! Next best thing… This awesome Sheep Cotton Candy holder that I forced Shawn to help me build. Lol… I thought cotton candy would look like the wool on a sheep… If the cotton candy was bigger and fuller. lol. Stay tuned for a tutorial on how to make your own Sheep Cotton Candy Holder too! wink! because every kid needs this at their birthday party!!

#3: Edible Candy Wall! My take on Willy Wonka’s lickable wallpaper. I just found a large wood board, painted it white, then used Sticky Tac to stick Salt Water Taffy to it! Easy Peasy!! Would make a cute back drop for a photo booth?? I finished it off my taping some of our extra candy shaped Party Favors to the top of the board. (see more about the party favors below).

#4: Candy Tree: I wanted to make a few candy trees, but this is the only one that came to be. The kiddos just stuck some ring shaped gummies around some of the branches, and pushed some flower shaped gummies on the ends of the branches! DONE!

#5: 3 Large Faux Cotton Candy Treats Hanging from the Ceiling! I just spray painted some of my quilting batting pink, wrapped it around some paper mached balloons, taped some white paper cones to the bottom, and hung them from the ceiling with fishing line!  WAA LAA! You can do it too!

#6: Violet – The “Blueberry Girl” from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Lol!! She has to be the most impressive decoration at the party!! Lol. An exercise ball, with a stretchy blue shirt, and a track suit jacket, blond wig, and shoes!! DONE!! “Where’s her face and arms” you ask… YUP! DONE!!

PARTY ACTIVITY!

PLAY DOUGH ACTIVITY: MAKING CANDY IN THE FACTORY!

One of Ivy’s top activities that she enjoys is playing with play dough, so I thought why not make a bunch of play dough, and put out a bunch of different craft supplies, so that the kiddos could use their imagination to create candies in the factory. I love how their little creations turned out. However, next time I would limit the amount of glitter. I think we will be living in a glitter house for the next few months!! Lol…

Here is the Play Dough Recipe I used… except I used some liquid Kool Aid mix to add some of the colours.

FOOD & TREATS

A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN!!! Obviously a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Party can’t exist without a chocolate fountain!! Warning!! Chocolate will go everywhere!! Lol… Ivy’s party dress was covered in chocolate before her guest even arrived!! Eye roll!! And I didn’t even get a photo of it… Womp Wooom!!

We Also had a Cotton Candy Machine!! Obviously that went with the Sheep Cotton Candy Holder!

And sadly I didn’t get a photo of my first attempt at a charcuterie board!!  I wasn’t sure if I chose the right meats and cheeses, but it all disappeared… so I must have. YUM!

I know… Believe me, there was food… I just failed in the photo taking department… Mad at myself! Grrrr.

CANDY CAKE!

Welcome to one of the easiest cakes you can make!! An Angle Food Cake covered in cream cheese flavored icing, that I dyed pink with food colouring, and then just threw a bunch of gummy candy on it… Lol! Ivy loved it! Yummmmmmm!! Kid cake heaven!!

CANDY SHAPED PARTY FAVORS!

At first I had the idea to paint the backs of paper plates, then cover them in cellophane to look like candies, which I planned to stick all over the walls. Then I realized if I slid another paper plate on the back, with the front of the plates together, it would hold party favors inside!! GENIUS!! Knocked out another party task by making the party favors out of the decorations!! I just wrote a child’s name on the front of each candy plate, and stuffed them with some goodies!! These are some of the extra plate candies that we made, because I don’t have a before photo of the actual candy plate favors… thumbs up!!

So there you have it!! Another year has flown by in Ivy’s life! I can’t believe she’s 3!! She is a wild, strong, extremely independent little girl, that we love with all of our hearts. I can’t wait to see her grow, and learn so much more this next year! What will she be interested in by her next birthday… I wonder???

I hope Ivy’s Oompa Loompa, Pink Sheep, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Party has inspired you to get creative with your own kiddos birthday parties! Let you imagination run wild!! You got this!!

Do you have any ideas for 5-year-old boy birthday party theme?? Corbin has already been putting in his requests for his birthday party, which is 6 months away… Lol…

Until next time, enjoy celebrating your kiddos, and create beautiful things everyday!
