Travel LEGO Kit: Awesome DIY Kids Party Favor Idea!

So you have a kid who is obsessed with LEGO too?!?! I hear ya! Corbin sneaks little bits of Lego into his pockets and snack bag before we leave the house, so that he can play with it when we are out and about. Then it gets lost… or worse… Stepped on!! OOWWW!! I thought why not give into his enjoyment and find a way to bring a little LEGO with us when we are driving in the car, waiting for appointments, do boring non kid things… Lol. So I decided to make the kiddo his own Travel Lego Kit! oh and Ivy too… And then one for every kid that was coming to Corbin’s LEGO Birthday Party as party favors! They were a hit, and so easy to put together… you can make them too!

HOW TO MAKE A TRAVEL LEGO KIT

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • Square Sandwich Container (I got these from Dollarama)
  • Square LEGO Board that is that a bit smaller than the square container (I got these ones from the Dollar Tree)
  • E6000 Glue (clear)
  • LEGO to put inside

METHOD:

Step 1: Gather supplies! So LEGO is EXPENSIVE!!! There are now a few brands of other building blocks that are completely compatible with LEGO but are called something else such as “BLOCK TECH.” BLOCK TECH can be found very inexpensive at most Dollar stores and Wal-Mart. The Dollar Tree where I live has these square boards and bags of colour coordinated blocks. Perfect for making this Travel LEGO Kit! Plus if you lose a piece it won’t be detrimental to find it to build your instruction manual creations!

Step 2: Fill your container with LEGO or its inexpensive cousin BLOCK TECH.

Step 3: Glue your LEGO Board to the top of the container. Use the strongest glue possible because you don’t want it to come off. I used E6000 because that’s what I had at home. Put the glue on the parts of the lid that are the highest points of contact. I put some in the middle and the corners of the lid. Like this…

Then put the LEGO board on the glue, and let it sit over night to make sure it was fully dry before using it.

Step 4: Then make 20 more… Lol! We made them for all of Corbin’s 21 friends to take home after his LEGO Birthday Party. We also added a little bag of treats inside too!

Corbin has enjoyed his travel LEGO kit in his new backyard hang out! I wish we had trees in our yard that would hold me in the hammock, so that I could relax and play LEGO’s too!!

So there you have it… a fun little Travel LEGO kit, that also makes a fun DIY kids birthday party favor! I hope you feel a little inspired to make one for your own kiddos. Go check out your dollar store to find inexpensive LEGO’s cousin, and a fun container, and let me know what you come up with! I’d love to see your Travel LEGO Kit creations!

Until next time, enjoy making your kiddos happy, and creating beautiful things everyday!

XO JCL

  • Glad I came across your post. Love it! I want to make these as party favors for my sons birthday party this month. Curious, how many legos did you put inside each box? I’m at Dollar Tree right now and each pack (Top Blox here) has 48 pieces of the same color. How did you divide them up? Thanks for your input!

    • Hi Jodi, thanks so much! Yes I remember that they came in packs of one color. I just bought one pack per kid and dumped them all out at home and gave each kid a bunch of different colors. I hope this helps! Happy Birthday to your son! Have an awesome time!

  • This is a great idea. I used a pencil box and glued the board on the inside of the lid. That way the pieces are less likely to fall while traveling.

    • Thanks Erin!! I’ll let him know you said so. I can’t get him out of that thing and he’s co versed in bug bites because the hammock is up in the bushes. Lol. ❤️
