Our lives have been filled with everything Kitty Cats lately, because we recently welcomed the 2 cutest kittens into our lives. Their names are Foxy and Evey! And since we have been so obsessed with them lately, and Ivy’s 5th Birthday is coming up, she has requested a Kitty Cat Birthday Party! So to make these kitty cat party dreams come true, we have come up with a plan to do a few small Kitty Cat Party Playdates, filled with Awesome Kitty Crafts, and fun Kitty Activities. Then her party (playdate) guests leave with a new adopted stuffed Kitty, and obviously all new Stuffed Kitties need a DIY Stuffed Kitty Cat Bed too! Wink!
What kid wouldn’t love a kitty in a DIY kitty cat bed… Right!! LOL… I found these gold wire baskets and Clothes Pin labels at the Dollar Tree. Then I just made a simple stuffed pillow to put in the bottom of the basket, so the stuffed kitties are super comfortable.
P.S. It was surprisingly hard to find a bunch of reasonably priced stuffed kitties!! I finally came across these stuffed grey, big eyed, kitties at the Great Canadian Dollar store, but there were only 4 of them (perfect for Ivy’s 4 friends), but not one for Ivy. Then I found 1 Kitty for Ivy… a Uni-kitty!
SUPPLIES TO MAKE A DIY SUFFED KITTY CAT BED:
- Small Basket – I got these pretty gold baskets from the Dollar Tree
- 2 pieces of 12 inch by 12 inch Fun Printed Fabric
- Something Round the size of a Large plate
- Scissors
- Sharpie Marker
- Coordinating Thread
- Sewing Machine
STEPS TO MAKE A DIY STUFFED KITTY BED:
Step #1: Place something round (like a large plate) onto your layered fabrics, and trace a circle onto the fabric. I made my circle about an inch bigger than our large dinner plates.
Step #2: Cut out the circle pieces on both pieces of fabric. I just layer them together, and cut the 2 fabric circles out at the same time.
Step #3: With the face sides of the fabric together, sew around the edges of the circle, keeping a 2 inch spot unsewn, so that you can flip the fabric the right way out.
Step #4: Flip your fabric the right way out. Making sure all your edges are turned all the way out to the edges.
Step #5: Top stitch a 1/2 inch seam around the edge of the whole kitty bed. This top stitch will close that little opening, and finish off the edges of the DIY Stuffed Kitty Cat Bed. Like this…
Done!! Now you have a cute little round pillow… or a cute little stuffed kitty bed! Then just shove that little pillow into a little round basket, and now it’s ready for a cute stuffed kitty to get cozy in!
While I was making these cute kitty beds our real kitty Foxy was eyeing them. “This one’s not for you Foxy!” Maybe I’ll have to make a bigger one for him and his sister Evey!… one day…

To finish off the cute DIY Stuffed Kitty Cat Bed, just added a little clip on chalk board sign that I found at the Dollar Tree (in a pack of 4). We plan to write each of Ivy’s friends names on them so they know whose is whose kitty cat bed! Ivy spent lots of time picking out each different fabric for each of her friends interests, so this is a very important detail!! Wink!
We are going to be making these little stuffed kitties their own DIY personalized Kitty collars as part of the craft activity at Ivy’s party. I’m thinking I’m going to cut out heart pieces of Shrinky Dink plastic, then get the kids to draw a picture or write their kitty cats names on it (whatever they desire). Put a little hold punch at the top of the heart, and shrink it down, and add it to a little ribbon collar. I can’t wait!
She is so excited! Being a kid is so much fun! I love finding ways to make their childhood memories a little more fun and special. Ivy can’t wait to have her little playdate birthday guests come and celebrate her 5th Birthday with her! Who am I kidding… I can’t wait too!
I hope that this tutorial inspires you to think of ways to make beautiful things that the party guests can take home after the party (or birthday playdate – wink)! It’s a great alternative to a party goody bag!
Until next time, have fun partying like a kitty, and don’t forget to create beautiful things everyday!
