Welcome to Ivy’s Kitty Cat 5th Birthday Party! A kitty cat lovers party dreams come true! This past month we adopted the 2 cutest little kittens, who have stolen our hearts. So what other birthday party theme would have been more fitting than a Kitty Cat Kids Birthday Party, for this cute cat loving girl of mine?!?!
Since my brain always thinks “Oh, I can make that… instead of spending money to just buy it,” I’ll be showing you how I made everything for this kitty cat party from mostly inexpensive dollar store items. And you can make them too! Here is to the DIY kids party’s that they will never forget!
To make sure everyone was comfortable with the current social distancing protocols that are a part of our current lives, we opted to have a very small party this year with just a couple of kids from Ivy’s class.
I wanted to highlight the incredible difference in having a small party, compared to our usual big birthday parties! It was amazing! You can have a more meaningful experience with your guests, since you have more time to be with each person… You don’t need to make as much food!!!… and you can go bigger on the party favors!! And that’s just what we did!
Come along for the ride that is Ivy’s Kitty Cat 5th Birthday Party! First stop, as you arrive to the house Ivy hands out the Kitty Cat Headbands, that we made from dollar store headbands, and felt.
After Ivy’s guests arrived, and after they got their sillies out by running around the house like kitties, we got started with Kitty Cat Party Activities!

KITTY CAT KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY ACTIVITIES:
#1 Adopt a Kitty
Okay, so this activity can get a little pricy if you have a lot of kids, but it is awesome for a small party! I found these stuffed kitties at the Great Canadian Dollar Store in my area, but I know they sell them at the check out isle of a lot of stores, such as the craft store Michaels! Here is a link to the Stuffed Gery Kitty, the Stuffed Multicolored Unikitty, and one that we didn’t have, but is super cute the Stuffed Pink Kitty.
To prepare for this activity we made the stuffed kitties some super cute kitty cat beds out of a cute gold basket that I found at the Dollar Tree, and a easy DIY sewn pillow. I let Ivy pick out each of the fabrics that the pillows were made of. It was so cute watching her find the perfect fabric for each of her friends. Check out the full Stuffed Kitty Cat Bed Tutorial to make some for your next party!
Then we added a little clothespin name tag to each of the baskets so that her guests could find their own kitties!
#2 Make a Kitty Collar
The next activity was to make all the kiddos new stuffed kitties some cute kitty collars. To make these kitty collars I just put out a couple bowls of colorful beads, lettered beads, pipe cleaners, bells, Sharpie Markers, and I cut some Shrinky Dink Paper into hearts with a hole punch at the top, so that the kids could hang it on the middle of the collar to make a name tag for their kitties! Now the kids want to make name tags for all the stuffies in their lives. Lol!
After the kiddos colored their heart Shrinky Dink name tags and named their kitties, I just popped the Shrinky Dinks in the oven for a minute, and then let them cool, before letting the kiddos add their shrunken down name tags to their kitty collars! Like this… This is Corbin’s creation. And I know what you are thinking… That’s not a kitty!! I got Corbin a fox because they didn’t have any more kitties at the store, and our boy real Kitty is named Foxy! It works right?!?! Wink!
#3 Pin the Nose on the Kitty
This fun classic game of Pin the tail on the donkey, turned pin the nose on the kitty was super easy to make! I just cut out a round face out of one of those large pieces of cardstock paper from the dollar store, I used the cut off pieces to make some ears, cut some white paper up to look like the whiskers, then just cut out some pink hearts with each kids name on them for the nose. I just added a piece of folded over tape to the backs of each of the hearts, and tied a dish cloth around the kids eyes so they could see, and spun the kids around a few times and WALA! fun times!
#4 Kitty Yarn Ball Races
This was the game Ivy was the most excited for. Kitty Yarn Ball Races!! For this activity I got 2 large foam balls from the dollar store, and just wound some yarn all around the outside of it. I secured the yarn to the ball with a bit of hot glue as I wound it on.
At game time, the kiddos would race in pairs down our hall way. The only rule was that you could only move the yarn ball with your head! Lol… It was very funny game to watch.
#5 Smash the Yarn Ball Piñata
To make the “yarn ball” Pinata, I just Paper Mached around a balloon, then after it was dried I removed the balloon, covered the outside with yarn, and filled it with candy. I then duct taped the hole end closed, added some rope through the duct tape, strung the other end of the rope to an old broom handle, and let the kids go wild with a plastic bat.
NOTE: don’t add too much yarn because the yarn really held the piñata together and if you add too much the piñata may never break apart!
#6 Kitty Cat Coloring Pages
It’s super easy to find free printable kitty cat coloring pages on the internet. Both of my kids love coloring, and are constantly asking me to print off different coloring pages, you can find anything that they desire!
KITTY CAT KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY FOOD IDEAS:
#1 Cotton Candy
I got this Cotton Candy Machine second hand off Market Place on Facebook a couple years ago, for Ivy’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 3rd Birthday Party. It was a huge hit then, so we brought it back for this Kitty Cat Kids Birthday party! What kid doesn’t love cotton candy? Plus it makes the house smell so yummy!
#2 Goldfish Bar
Kitties love fishies right?!?! So we put together a little kitties Fishy Bar for the kids to try a bunch of different kinds of goldfish. Guess which ones were the most loved?… Vanilla Cupcake fishies!!!
#3 Kitty Cat Jell-O Cups
I made these cute Prepackaged Kitty Cat Jell-O cups for Ivy to share with her friends in her school class on her birthday. They would also work great at a Kitty cat Birthday party! Here is the fun and easy Kitty Cat Jell-O Cup tutorial to whip some up!
#4 Charcutier Board
Don’t forget a plate of yumminess for the adults too! A charcutier board is an awesome way to serve a bunch of delicious cheese, meats, nuts and crackers. I also had a veggie tray and a fruit tray, and of course a bowl of Smartfood popcorn (Ivy’s favorite food) to enjoy!
#5 Kitty Cat Cup Cakes
I am far from being a cake decorator, but it doesn’t matter. Give icing some cupcakes a try! Lol. After spreading some white icing on each cupcake, I added a little heart sprinkle for the kitties noses, then I just put some black icing into a zip lock bag and cut a very small hole on one of the bottom corners of the zip lock bag, and piped the black lines of a kitties face onto each of the cupcakes! Looks professional… I KNOW!! lol. You can do it too!
#6 Kitty Cat Cake
We had another separate family pizza kitty party for Ivy, so of course she needed another cake for that event! I made a simple Angel Food cake covered in Coolwhip and sprinkles! Then I printed out a photo of each of our kitties on our photo printer, cut them out, made a couple little party hats out of construction paper and pom poms, glued them to a skewer, and popped them in the top of her cake! TADA! Kitty cake!
